EXPECT CRACK FIELD FOR CRETE OPENING FEATURE SPRINTERS TO COMPETE IN OUTER DRIVE PURSE PURSESuch Such Speedsters as Kings Blue Flying Lill Smacked Potranco and Joe Schenck May Go to Post PostCRETE CRETE 111 May 13 With many fash ¬ ionable stables arriving at Lincoln Fields hourly and word from Churchill Downs that the main divisions of a great number of es ¬ tablishments would converge on the Will County course between now and Sunday Larry Bogenschutz who opened the racing secretarys office Monday morning staled today he had hopes for a fine field of fine sprinters contesting the Outer Drive Handi ¬ cap which will top the openingday program Monday May 19 Nominations for the six furlongs dash close Friday with acceptance of weights Sat ¬ urday morning Among the speedsters ex ¬ pected to be assigned weights are Kings Blue Technician Joe Schenck My Bill Mystery Marvel Montsin Hoptown Lass Flying Lill Smacked Potranco True Star Talked About Bettys Bobby Franks Boy and others othersSupporting Supporting the Outer Drive will be the Chicago Heights a mile test for topnotch threeyearolds This race is expected to engage some of the leading horses of this age participating in midwestern racing racingEARLY EARLY KENTUCKY ARRIVALS ARRIVALSAmong Among the early arrivals fro Kentucky will be thirty horses the property of Wool ford Farm eighteen belonging to Kern Brothers who race under the nom de course of Lexbrook Stable Roscoe T Goose Jake Lowenstein Jay D Weil a division of Val dina Farm Thomas Piatt Tom Carr Piatt and many more moreAfter After checking over the list of nominations for the Crete Handicap which will top the first Saturday program Bogenschutz an ¬ nounced that the Outer Drive Handicap would serve as a preliminary test for that six furlongs dash Weights for the Crete will be released Monday May 19 with ac ¬ ceptance on the following Friday FridayAmong Among the stables coming from Maryland for the Crete meeting will be that of Mrs Marie Evans It is topped by Shot Put win ¬ ner of the Lincoln Handicap here last year and again a candidate for that one mile and one quarter journey Shot Put won two of the marathon races offered at Washington Park and then moved on to Belmont Park to annex the New York Handicap and later establish himself as the distance champion of the year JOE SCIIENCK CRETE PROBABLE PROBABLEJoe Joe Schenck winner of the Tropical Handi ¬ cap at that track and the Steger Handicap here last year will attempt to make it a double in that race He is one of three sprinters nominated for the sevenfurlongs sprint and will have his 1941 baptism of Chicago racing in the Crete CreteJames James T Clark placing and paddock judge will arrive tomorrow morning to assist Bogenschutz with the advance ar ¬ rangements and C Bruce Head general man ¬ ager is returning here at the same time Head will be at the downtown offices of the Lincoln Fields Jockey Club tomorrow and Thursday and then will move his offices to the Crete course courseAlthough Although the larger improvements have been completed several minor changes are under way and they are being directed by Tom Young who returned from Louisville early Monday morning morningColonel Colonel Matt J Winn had the following to say about the Lincoln Fields meeting meetingI I feel confident the meeting will be one of the most successful in many years said Colonel Winn There is an increased en ¬ thusiasm over the sport of horse racing in every country and this should extend itself to Lincoln Fields FieldsBut But of course the measure of success depends much upon weather conditions In the past two years we have been plagued by rain and more rain Weve had about thirtyeight bad tracks during the fifty odd days of racing through 1939 and 1940 and that hurt attendance considerably But if we have clear skies and a fast track through most of the thirty days everything ought to be all right
