Charles Town Opens Aid National War Fund FundNet Net Proceeds of First Week of Sport to Go to Worthy Benefit BenefitCHARLES CHARLES TOWN W Va May 8 Rac ¬ ing returns to West Virginia Monday in a charitable vein The first six days of the 48day summer meeting at this home plant of the Charles Town Jockey Club will be staged for the benefit of the National War Fund All proceeds less operating expenses accrued during that period will be donated to that organization which was instigated at the behest of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt to facilitate distribution of emer ¬ gency war relief funds Incidentally last year this association raised 94512 for war relief reliefThe The opening week is not the only period set aside for charity a second weeks activ ¬ ity from June 7 to 12 also will be donated to the same worthy cause and it is planned later to put aside receipts from another two days for the establishment of a merchant marine endowment fund at the University of West Virginia VirginiaAlthough Although the uncertainty of the times prompts racing entrepreneurs to regard presentation of meetings as a probable hit andmiss proposition president Albert J Boyle isof the opinion that the thorough ¬ bred sport should continue if possible That thought prompted him to go ahead with plans for this meeting in spite of present conditions Naturally some changes resulted and planned improvements had to be sacri ¬ ficed but any curtailment is better than no racing at all allOne One of the changes brought about is that of the post time It has been advanced to 115 p m This move was made to conform with regular train and bus schedules from Baltimore and Washington D C
