Ita bo Gets Blackstone Valley Honors On Red Cross Day Card at Gansett Miles Racer Ends K Dorko s Winning Streak in Beating Him by TwoLength Margin MarginPAWTUCKET PAWTUCKET R I May 8 Red Cross Day brought out one of the largest crowds of the spring season as the Narragansett Park meeting came to a close Headlining the final days sport was the Blackstone Valley Handicap in which J H Miles Itabo coupled with Argonne Woods ran one of the fastest six furlongs of the meeting to triumph R Robertsons K Dorko who had captured his last three starts had his win ¬ ning streak halted when he was forced to be content with second place Mrs Wallace Renards Mixer contributed a game effort to be third after having raced into close quarters nearing the turn from the back stretch stretchItabo Itabo was timed in 110 as he reached the line with two lengths to spare The vic ¬ tory added 1600 to his earnings the major portion of the 2500 prize From the start Itabo beat the others away but he soon was joined by Spiral Pass and Charitable Claggett then wisely took him back and held to a position on the outside Going to the far turn Spiral Pass drew into a lead of a length while five of the others raced heads apart in closest pursuit Ar ¬ gonne Woods stablemate of the winner was trailing the company Midway of the turn Itabo was placed under hard riding and moved up steadily K Dorko also raced up to wear down the early pacemaker and still held to a position along the inner rail Itabo responded wil ¬ lingly to his riders call and was in front before making the turn for home Straight ¬ ening out in the stretch the Miles five yearold drew clear clearSpiral Spiral Pass had retired from serious con ¬ tention and it was the Robertson colt that chased closest after the leader Mixer after having encountered some trouble was giving improved speed and moving up stead ¬ ily However through the stretch Itabo con ¬ tinued with undiminished stride and was never to be seriously threatened K Dorko had scant difficulty in taking his share of the spoils three lengths in advance of the Renard fouryearold
