Several La Salle Candidates in Trials Valdina Orphan Is Sent Mile in 141 35 35Best Best Seller and Rounders Go Six Furlongs in 113 And 1 114 Respectively RespectivelySTICKNEY STICKNEY 111 June 9 Valdina Orphan and Rounders from the Valdina Farm stable and Best Seller owned by J W Galbreath and R J Dienst signalized their fitness for Saturdays renewal of the La Salle Handicap in sparkling private drills over a fast track at Hawthorne this morning Rounders and Best Seller con ¬ fined their activities to sixfurlong works during the training hours while Valdina Orphan essayed a more ambitious trial when he traveled a mile Each of them impressed observers with his general con ¬ dition and all three are expected to start in the 5000 run of a mile and a sixteenth unless the track is wet wetValdina Valdina Orphan who will be making his first start since he ran second to Aletern in the Ben AH Handicap during the Keene land meeting executed his mile in 141 one of the outstanding works of the Chicago season at that distance The son of Hilltown worked unattended and was well within himself all the way wayIn In his sixfurlongs spin Rounders looked just as good He was timed in 114 and he was under strong restraint to suggest that he could have traveled considerably faster had his exercise rider elected to send him along Rounders faces his first start since the winter season in New Orleans OrleansWorks Works From Gate GateBest Best Seller who has been more active than the Valdina Farm horses this spring also reflected his splendid condition as he negotiated his six furlongs in 113 handily He worked from the gate gateThree Three other eligibles for the La Salle which is to highlight an allaround good program here on Saturday also were seen in preparatory drills this morning They were the Walmac Farms Bushwhacker David Straus Daily Trouble and Eddie Andersons Burnt Cork Bushwhacker covered six furlongs in 119 breezing and Daily Trouble traversed five furlongs in 104 while Burnt Coik tripped the same distance in 104 104Bushwhacker Bushwhacker and Daily Trouble are being considered certain starters in the Saturdays stake but whether Burnt Cork will take part in the race will depend on a later decision by his connections Burnt Cork is essentially a sprinter and his stable may decide to pass up the La Salle for him and send him after honors in a sixfurlong handicap on the same program programThe The La Salle had 12 nominees the others being Aletern owned by A C Ernst Mrs Clyde Troutts Take Wing Mrs Marie Evans Shot Put William Montgomerys Choppy Sea and Mrs Robert McGarveys Night Shadow Neither Choppy Sea nor Night Shadow however is being considered seriously in connection with the stake
