Detroit Turfmen Aid Fellow Unfortunates UnfortunatesThose Those Who Lost Stables in Fire Will Be Put Back Into Business BusinessDETROIT DETROIT Mich June 20 That racing does indeed help its own was again ex ¬ emplified today with announcement by George W Lewis general manager of the Detroit Racing Association that horsemen whose racing establishments were destroyed by the fire that razed two barns at the Fair Grounds early Saturday morning are to be put back in business They will be given money with which to replace stable equipment personal property and buy horses This sum originates from a fund Controlled by the Detroit Horsemens Relief Society set up shortly after introduction of racing to this State in 1933 1933The The Relief Societys fund has been put to good use in the past but this is its big ¬ gest job It accrues from donations by the track management and at present is in excess of 50000 50000The The amount to be given owners who lost horses is to be determined at a meeting set for Wednesday by president Charles A Bray who by the way is a member of the board of stewards at the track Trustees are Charles T Fisher Louis J Lepper Clarence E Lehr and Michigan Racing Commissioner William J Dowling Already DowlingAlready the fund has aided many who suffered from the mishap A total of 4400 has been distributed at the rate of 100 each to stable hands who lost per ¬ sonal belongings in the fire Money also Is to be provided for burial of David Scott 56 a groom who lost his life in the con ¬ flagration In addition hospital expenses of those injured in the fire will be taken care of from the societys fund
