Troutt Writes Miller About Current Purse Dispute DisputeThe The following letter was received by William S Miller member of the Illinois Racing Board from Clyde Trcutt who is racing his stable at Belmont Park ParkJamaica Jamaica N Y May 7 1952 William S Miller Illinois Racing Board Ottawa Illinois Dear Bill BillI I see by the racing papers that you have some trouble with the horsemen My name has been mentioned two or three times in the paper I did not meet with Mr William H Johnston president of the National Jockey Club to discuss purse dis ¬ tribution in Chicago However I was at a social gathering in Florida last winter at which Mr Johnston was in attendance I talked with him and the purse distribu ¬ tion matter was brought up I havent raced at Sportsmans Park since the spring of 1948 and I knew I was not going to race there in the spring of 1952 I told Mr Johnston he had always been fair with the horsemen and I was sure he could handle the purse distribution matter him ¬ self and that he could quote me as one of the conimitteemen that had always been on his side and that still goes for I do believe that if it had not been for the late Charles Bidwill and Mr Johnston the Horsemens Benevolent and Protective As ¬ sociation could not have survived in Chi ¬ cago I think that some of the oldtimers there will tell you the same sameAs As for the vicepresident of the HBPA there now I met him only one time and I want to say this here and now that he nor no one else was talked to by me or got in touch with me personally on this matter in any way I think it can be worked out okay and I do hope so Cordially yours Clyde Troutt one of the 10 comitteemen
