Pony Boy DuringTfaining Period PeriodBELMONT BELMONT PARK Elmont L I N Y May 9 There will be a pony boy on duty hereafter at the New York tracks during training hours Marshall Cassidy executive secretary of The Jockey Club and steward representing that organiza ¬ tion today notified Sol Rutchick vice president of the New York Division of the Horsemens Benevolent and Protective Association that the latters request had been approved by the local associations A pony boy in the morning serves the same purpose that outriders do during racing hours They steady unruly and nervous horses and catch runaways The HBPA felt the need is just as great during the training period as in the afternoon exer ¬ cise boys being subject to the same perils as raceriding jockeys
