Famous Mint Julep Recipe As Prepared by Watterson WattersonCHURCHILL CHURCHILL DOWNS Louisville Ky May 4 The late Irvin S Cobb who liked fast horses and good bourbon once said Who has not tasted a mint julep has lived in vain Cobb was reported quite partial 1 to the mixture concocted by Henry Watter ¬ son famous editor of the Louisville Courier Journal JournalWattersons Wattersons recipe called for the follow ¬ ing ingredients preferably those nurtured under Kentuckys bright sun Take a silver goblet one that holds a pint and dissolve a lump of loaf sugar in it with not more than a tablespoon of spring water Take one mint leaf no more crush it gently between the thumb and forefinger before dipping it into the dissolved sugar Then fill the goblet nearly full to the brim with shaved ice Pour into it all the bourbon whiskey the goblet will hold Take a few sprigs of mint leaves and use for decorating the top of the drink after it has been well frapped with a spoon Then sip slowly but dont use a straw
