How Speed Ratings Are Compiled CompiledSpeed Speed ratings appearing in DAILY RACING FORM past performances are based on a comparison of each horses running time with the track record existing at the beginning of the meeting Th track record will receive a standard rating of 100 thus a horse equaling the record will have a speed rating of 100 For each onefifth second slower than the track record one point is deducted Therefore the rating for a horse running his race two and onefifth seconds slower than the track record receives a speed rating of 89 100 minus 11 11E E X A M P L E Track record 110 110Winners Rating figure 100 Winners time 110V Rating S9 Time of second horse 110 97 Time of third horse 111 95 Time of fourth horse 111 5 93 Time of fifth horse 111 91 One point the equivalent of onefifth second is deducted from the rating for each length the horse is beaten Thus a horse beaten four lengths in a sixfurlong race run in 111 rating of 100 where the track record is 110 is timed in 111 receiving a speed rating of 91
