SANTA ANITA PLEASES HILDRETH. Will Race at New Track Easterners Recoup Losses by Backing Niblick. Los Angeles, Cal., December 20. S. C. Hildreth arrived here today and after Colonel Bob had spun off a fast five furlongs, he turned to assistant judge Cole and enthusiastically asked how long tliis kind of racing had lieen going on. He was delighted with the plant and said he would immediately ship twenty horses here. It is an open secret that he will race his horses here to prepare them for the Burns Handicap and other big fixtures at Oakland. It is a well known fact that horses carefully prepared in Los Angeles always give a good account of themselves when shipped north and Mr. Hildreth is much impressed with the idea. Tlie eastern contingent won handsomely on Niblicks victory in the second race, getting their money down at the good price of 5 to 1. B. F. Carman will hardly have things his own way when Hildreth begins to race a part of his stable here, and the rivalry which is sure to follow will add much spice and interest to local racing. No persistent halter man has as yet shown up, but W. D. Millard is making it uncomfortable for certain owners, claiming Ed Ball yesterday and Progress today.
