POLAR STAR SELLS FOR 90000 Mr Walkers Great Colt Goes with Cyllcnc to the Argentine Republic London July 4 Polar Star lias been bought from Mr W Hall Walker by Mr Ernest Tanner on be ¬ half of the proprietors of the Ojo DC Agua Stud Buenos Ayres for 90000 The deal was concluded the evening of July 2 at Newmarket the horse having passed the necessary terinary examination The son of Pioneer and Go On will be shipped to the Argentine on July 21 along with Cyllene which it will be remembered was also bought by Mr Tanner for 125000 in January his destination being the same stud Cyllene has of course proved himself but in all probability there are even better days ahead of him that he has had since he went to the stud for his stock seems to improve each year Only this week some splendid yearlings by him have been seen in the sales ring That Polar Star is a great horse is a proposition that admits of no doubt whatever As a twoyear old lie demonstrated most conclusively that lie was the best of his year and the hardiness of his con ¬ stitution was shown by the fact that he was winning races from the end of March to the end of October His feat of winning the Kempton Jubilee with 111 pounds in the saddle and beating horses like Veloc ¬ ity on terms worse than weightforagc Is one that will always be quoted TO his glory It was of course highly unfortunate that the performance temporarly sapped his vital energy but last mouth when he won the Manchester Cup in a canter it was seen that he was himself again To all intents and purposes he is a classic horse horsePolar Polar Star is a chestnut and four years old by Galopins son Pioneer out of Go On a chestnut mare thirteen years old by Isosceles out of Spring thorn by Morgan Mr Walker bred and has raced him for three seasons As a twoyearold only moderately engaged Polar Star started in twelve races and won them all and 29GSO He won the Sefton Park Coventry May Devonshire Great Foal Royal Clewer Rous and Michaelmas Plates and tho Ashley Gimcrack and Criterion Stakes In 1907 the rich Kempton Park Jubilee Stakes victory strained him so severely that he did not get into winning form until the fall when he closed the sea ¬ son by winning the Wellesbourne Plate at New bury buryThis This season Polar Star has started but twice and won the Hous Memorial Stakes and Manchester Cup His record in three seasons is given in the table below belowPolar Polar Star 1904 ch c by Pioneer Go On Year Agr Sts 1st 2 1 3d Unp Won 10 2 12 12 0 0 O 29 SO 107 2 2 0 2 1475 1475100S 100S 4 2 2 0 0 0 17400 17400Totals Totals 3 20 16 202 01455
