SCANT STAKE OFFERINGS AT PIMLICO Now York January 21 For the coming meeting of the Maryland Jockey Club it has been announced that the only stakes that will be run are the Cla liaugh Memorial and the Pimlico Nursery for two ycarsolds and tile Preakness a threeyearold fix ¬ ture The Clabaugh Memorial and the Nursery are stakes that closed last fall and the Preakness will be closed next month The Preakness will be under handicap conditions and will have an added value of 2000 Last season the jockey club addetl a jiiece of plate to the value of 500 to the Preakness ami it is possible that a like prize will be offered his season seasonSecretary Secretary Kiggs lias said that no flat nice will have a lesser value than 500 snid the steeplechases will IK of 000 value The reason assigned for the cutting out of slakes was that the overnight purses should be of better value There will be several handicaps to replace the stakes with values of from 5700 to 1000 Ilj sending the money for such races the prizes will be offered for horses actively in training on the grounds and will make certain larger racingIn fields and better racing In the matter of dates Secretary Uiggs would not say that any change would be made from those already seleeted April 20 to May 7 but it Was intimated that an curlier start miglit be arranged so that the racing would IK confined to the month of April in order to lessen the conflict with New York
