RECORD OF THE LEADING AMERICAN STABLE OF THIS YEAR 4 With the end of the Jamestown meeting came the retirement of the H. P. Whitney horses from racing until the campaign of 1914 shall call them into action again. Twenty-three horses raced In Mr. Whitneys colors this year and to such excellent effect that he Is easily the leading winning owner of 1913. Nine of the twenty-three, including Iron Mask and Prince Eugene, were sold to other owners in the course of the racing season. The star of the stable was the great racer, Whisk Broom II., which unluckily broke down, but not until he had cut the record for a mile and a quarter down from 2:02 to 2:00 and made another-record as the only wluncr of the Metropolitan, Brooklyn and Suburban handicaps. The Futurity winner. Pennant, proved himself a two-year-old of great speed and promise and Black Broom was another two-year-old which raced With distinction. Formidable as it was this year, the. Whitney stable will probably be even stronger next year because of being reinforced by such celebrities as Borrow, Meeting House and others brought home from England.
