VALUABLE RACES WON IN ARGENTINA. I. Torterolo. the Soiilh American jockey, who I used to ride in England at and after the lime when i Gomes distinguished himself by winning two "ten t thousand pounders" for Mr. Buchanan on Bpsoni i Lad. has recently won a big "classic" in the Argentine. • The race was a mile affair, the Premie i Baavedra, worth over 5.0IK to the winner, with substantial sums for the second and third horses. The winner was the Indecis Studs Ocurrcneia. by M. R. Blancs former horse. Val dOr. Another stallion responsible for tin- winners of two rather less valuable races recently is Greenan. That racing in the Argentine is in a most flourishing condition 1 is evident from the amount of stake money to be run for. On Julv s. for example, the aggregate value of the eight events was 1,789, and on the following day the total of eight other races was 1 974,286. Included in tin- second days program was the valuable race won by Ocurrcneia. :
