McLean i will start this .veals racing with ten hoi-e- in the alder division and tea two-year-olds, all in charge of John P. St hot r. Tin- horses us wintering 1 at Penning, near Washington, and it is now tin Intention to move them to the Laurel track at soon as the- weather breaks. The- string will start proceedings as soon as Plasties opens its gates f May 1. after which all the- horses will probably be shipped lo Kentucky to race there until the floor of the- I.atonia meeting, when they will lie sent to Saratoga. In the older division of the Mel. can i stable there arc several splendid horses, notably The Porter, one of the lust little handicap horses in tin-country, a horse that carries heavy Impost! with the- same gann ne-ss whether the going be fast ; or heavy. Then comes I.eochare-s. another de-, |iei. daldi- horse, with a burst of speed which at t times seems almost phenomenal. Rapid Day was acquired bj Mr. McLean last autumn and, while not as good as either Tin- Porter or Leochares. Ufa .wed thai he is ■ useful horse of more thai ordinary ability. From these three down the lim are some good platers and tin- ten two-year-olds, making a rather Interesting collection of horses , th.it may carry the celnca of their popular owner to , frequent victor.
