. | | ] 1 i I j j PLANS FOR BOWIE MEETING Horses and Horsemen Already Gathering at Maryland Course for Opening April I. BALTIMORE. M.I.. March 4.— Horses and horsemen are arriving daily at the Bowie cour-e to prepare for the opening of the eastern racing season there April 1. About eighty horses wintered at the Bowie course. Horses have been arriving froui Havana in carload lots for several weeks and th. New Orleans continuents are now beginning to appear. Two carloads recently arrived from Mexico City. Jatnes F. OHara, who, with Gadson Bryan, Jr., supervised the Mexico meeting at the Hippodrome de la Condesa. is among the recent arrivals. He is already at work preparing for the Bowie opening. Bryan will return in a couple of weeks. Edward Rice of Colorado, who arrived with a few horses ftom Mexico City, also brought with him a promising lightweight apprentice jockey, Viayt. who will ride in Maryland and New York during the coming season. Another rider who mad ■• a good record in the Mexican racing. Watson, will also come here for the Bowie meeting. It is expected that about 700 horses will be on hand for racing by the opening day. The officials who will conduct the Bowie meeting will be largely the same as those who presided at the Mexico City meeting. Joseph A. Murphy and Edward Tril e will act as judges. Herman Conkling. one of the Mexico i City stewards, will servo as director of racing, and George Miller will handle the starters flag.
