NEW ILLINOIS JOCKEY CLUB Prominent Chicago Men of Affairs Are on Its Roster. Meeting to Be Held Next Week to Elect Officers and Perfect Organization. Following a definite announcement that twelve days of running races would begin at Hawthorne race track the latter part of September, hundreds of bankers, brokers, merchants and prominent leaders in Chicagos commercial and social activities apply for membership in the new Illinois Jockey Club. Present officials of the club will call a meeting to be held at the Congress Hotel early next week, at which time plans will be completed for a permanet organization with the names of several well-known men included as officers. A board of governors will include fifty of Chicagos civic and social leaders. Jockey Club stewards, judges and racing officials will also be chosen from the pick of the country. Prominent horsemen already have assured racing judge Joseph A. Murphy that every effort will be made to co-operate with him in the selection from the finest stables in America. Carpenters, painters and decorators will begin the work of rehabilitation and grading the track August 15. Two weeks will be required to complete the work. A small force is now at work rebuilding the fences and stables. Now that permission lias been obtained from the government officials, in possession of the grounds during the war, there will be no further delay in completing the work thus far mapped out.
