Bradley Looking Forward to 1944 1944Famous Famous Silks Missing Again This Year Sees Chance Next Season With Son of Bimelech BimelechLOUISVILLE LOUISVILLE Ky April 30 Edward R Bradley who between 1920 and 1940 missed having a starter in the Kentucky Derby only four times is without a repre ¬ sentative in this Churchill Downs classic for the third straight year sut the only man ever to have won four renewals of this fixture has not given up hope of winning a fifth He now is looking to a son of Bimelech the last colt to represent him in the Derby to give him his fifth hero of Louisvilles spring special for threeyear olds Bimelech was Bradleys greatest Derby disappointment The master of Idle Hour Farm looked upon Bimelech as the finest horse he ever raised and at the con ¬ clusion of 1939 many others thought so too for the colt completed his juvenile campaign that year unbeaten He natu ¬ rally became a prohibitive favorite for the Kentucky Derby and when Gallahadion beat him in that event the entire turf world was shocked shockedCould Could Atone for Sires Failure FailureNow Now Bimelech is in the stud and his first sons and daughters now are twoyearolds and the octogenarian Colonel Bradley looks for another Derby winner from among them If one of the little Bims could triumph in next years Derby the Colonel could more easily forget their sires disappointing failure of 1940 1940Colonel Colonel Bradley won the Derby the sec ¬ ond time he tried for it when Behave Yourself beat his stablemate Black Ser ¬ vant in the 1921 running His three other winners were Bubbling Over in 1926 when his Bagenbagage ran second Burgoo King in 1932 and Brokers Tip in 1933 The only years before 1940 and since 1920 that his colors have failed to appear in the stake were 1928 1931 1938 and 1939 Two times in 1922 and 1924 he had three starters and in all he has started 27 horses in the Derby in the last 23 years yearsHis His colors will be missed this year and fans will be rooting for him to have an ¬ other representative in 1944
