HAELEMS HELENS FAIR OPENING Tlie Lie Harlem meeting opened yesterday with ideal racing weather and a light attendance The track was dry and lumpy generally It was deen den and tiring on the inside Horses that toolr tool tbe tube short route had the worst of the going In hat particular footing Imp negotiated a mil c in 1 44 She ran the fourth furlong in ili ii and was under restraint from the half mile gro grog and to the finish Jnst Jens at the finish the filly was shaken up to stall off Frank Thompsons Thompson dot ermined ermine bid Turner looked over his shoulder and let the mare loaf the last three sixteenths A little more indulgence would haVe caused her to lose the race and there is official authority for the statement that if she had Turner would have been ruled off Boys hav have e no business to take such chances he first race produced a nose and head fin ¬ ish dish in which the favorite Cherryflame Cheryl won anri anti Millie M beat Warren Point a 10 to 1 chrinc6 for the piace pace A hundred and fifty Jrfds RFD from the end Warren Point came from bebind behind and looked a sure winner The other two got away from him againbut again he was the strongest at the stand and would have won in a few more strides Gnome and Cherryflame Cheryl set vhe he pace until near the last eighth Then tS ome Nome retired The others ran miserably Che Chen second race four and a half furlongs for 2yearold fillies was really a contest between two although seven started Black Yenus Yens opened at 2 to 5 and went to 1 to 2 Then the talent plunged to get sure money Espirage Sprague at 3 to 1 and 7 to 10 was liberally supported The favorite got the best of a good start and was quickly joined by Espirage Sprague At the end of a half they weredriving wiredrawing Under punishment Espirage Sprague drew out and won easily The others were beaten off offA offal A selling event of a mile and a sixteenth was won by Joe Clark a 3 to 1 shot Newsgatherer Newscaster and Moncreith Noncredit were equal favorites at 2 to 1 Newsgatherer Newscaster led into the streteh stretch Moncreith Noncredit lay next to last for nearly threequarters treasurers In the stretch Joe Clark challenged Newsgatherer Newscaster and Sunburst Banquo Banquet II Pete Kitchen and Moncreith Noncredit came up in a bunch Newsgatherer Newscaster yielded and dropping back caused a shuffle that checked Banquo Banquet and Sunburst causing the latter to seriously impede Moncreith Noncredit There ¬ after Clark had command Banquo Banquet and Mon creith credit had a drive for the place while Sutton finished strongly a good fourth fourthAt fourth At five furlongs for 3yoarolds Dave Waldo Weald cleverly won from Peter McCue McClure Kichard Richard J being an ordinary third thirdImp third Imp was a 1 to 4 shot against J H C Frank Thompson and Lucid Mr Laudeman Laundryman backed his colt for the place and J H C carried the Joe Clark winnings Lucid got away last and then tried to make Imp stop He hung on until tbe tube homestretch was reached J H C and Frank Thompson then fought out second place and the latter won the fight He is a good colt coltHugh colt Hugh Penny got off last in the sixth race and andwon Ando won easily Diggs Digs led into the stretch only to tofinish coffins finish an indifferent third Floronso Florins making a afinal final final effort and driving hard at the winners neels kneels neelsEugene Eugene Leigh accompanied by Jockey Turner left last night for Cincinnati This morning they will work Heliobas Hellions for the Emerald Stakes to be run tomorrow at Oakley Ankle Turner will have the mount mountSuisun mountains Suisun Sufis has been retired Eugene Leigh has sold her to Clay Woodford Woodward and Friday she will be shipped to Kentucky KentuckyTHOS Kentucky THOS ETHOS J GALLAGHER
