GOSSIP OF TBE BE TURF The jockeys who are riding at Newport will not have long tabs of uncollected and uncol uncoil lectable excitable fees for their services at the close of the meeting They got up a petition yesterday requesting the association to provide for the collection of their fees The judges accord ¬ ingly jingly issued a notice to the effect that the losing jockey fee must be paid to the clerk of the scales in every race before the time for weighing out unless the jockey is riding for his contract employer Notice was also served that Rule 93 will be enforced against every owner failing to conform to the requirement as to depositing fee with the scales clerk Rule 93 is as follows The owner of a horse which is prevented from starting in a purse race because of unpaid jockey fee or of arrears against him or his horse shall be liable for the declaration fee and he and his horses shall be suspended until such is paid It has been reported that Colonel Clark at Harlem has said that there is noth moth ¬ ing King in the racing rules that gives an association authority to require owners to pay jockey fees in advance but the rule above quoted certainly implies that an association has such authority The order issued by the Newport judges is the same that was enforced at Latonias Platonism spring meeting and gave satisfaction to all concerned Cincinnati Enquirer J M Milwaukee Wis Wigs We only secure quota ¬ tions ions of such odds on horses that finish first second and third According to New York news ¬ papers Ben Holladay Holland was 1 to 2 place J H K Milwaukee Wis Wigs The judges ordered bets to be paid on the horses in the order they finished in the race No disqualification
