A GREAT STAKE RACE The Stallion Shakes will be run off at the next Hawthorne meeting It is for 2yearolds at six furlongs and fiom Fiona a monetary point of view it is by far the most valuable stake event of the western turf On the basis of fifteen starters Secretary Kuhl Kohl estimates its gross value at 22255 of which the winner will garner for his fortunate owner the imposing sum of 18055 The far recorded in the history of Hawthorne HawthorneThe Hawthorne The conditions of this great event the stal stale ¬ lions entered and their entrance fees are as follows THE STALLION STAKES 1898 5000 ADDED ADDEDAsweepstakes Asweepstakes Sweepstakes for twoyearolds toeholds foals of 1896 the produce of stallions entered by January 1 1896 under the following subscriptions 50 each for stallions whose service fee is 100 or greater and only 25 each for all other stallions Foals to be entered by January 1 1897 when the stake shall close at 200 each 50 forfeit or only 15 if declared out on or before March 1 or 25 by May 11898 declarations void unless accompanied with the money with 5000 added The second horse to receive 700 of the added money and thirty per cent of the starting money The third horse to receive 300 of the added money and twenty per cent of the start ¬ ing King money The nominator of the sire of the first second and third horses to receive twenty five per cent fifteen per cent and ten per cent of the starting money respectively Winners of three races of 1000 or one of 2500 to carry 3 Ibs Dibs of two of 2500 or one of 5000 5 Ibs Dibs of two of 5000 7 ibs dibs penalty The produce of stallions which have not Iproduced Produced a winner prior to January 1 1897 allowed 3 Ibs Dibs whether claimed or not at the time of the entry and not to be forfeited because of any
