Cromwell beat the gate, met with no inter- ference and fully ran to his form. Greyhurst ran an honest race and was well ridden. Lode Star closed up steadily from a bad beginning and ran a good race. The route was too long for Lady Britannic. Collins was off very badly and worse ridden. Hardly, place, 2 to 5. Cromwell, place, 7 to 10. Elidad was nearly left and closed a lot of ground. Lena was practically left at the post. The race should be thrown out as to her. McFarlano dislikes mud. The others were outclassed. All Smoke, though short, made up a lot of ground and is ready to win in her own class. Milt Young was unlucky and is not quite fit but ran a good race undbr difficulties. It was a sharp tussle at the end between him and Dr. Sham. The latter was badly ridden and will bear watching. Whaleback made up a lot of ground but was badly handled. Midian is good on a dry track only. Scratched Gratify, 104; Patriarch, 116. Corrected weights Whaleback, 92. Bosebeau, place, 3 to 1; show, evens. All Smoke, place, 10 to 1; show, 4 to 1.
