NOTES OF THE TURF. John E. Madden has bought from A. H. and D. H. Morris the stallion Russell, by Eolus Tillie Russell. Foaled in 1880 Russell was one of the best sons of Eolus and in view of the fact that every one of them that has had a chance in the stud has proved a successful sire it is probable that Madden has bought a horse destined to rank with Knight of Ellerslie and St. Savior before many years pass by. A Lexington dispatch says: "An epidemic of grip has broken out to an alarming extent among the fine horses of this section. Thoroughbreds especially are suffering. Many valuable mares are dropping their foals on account of it. There is a letter at this office for starter Dick Dwyer.
