GOSSIP OF THE TURF. A gentleman who is now in San Francisco and who knows and is known by nearly every follower of the turf in Chicago, writes as follows, concerning certain features of the racing in the vicinity of the city of the Golden Gate: "The game is very good here, with an average of twenty books and the betting I consider very fair. The only plunger here is an Australian, named Hill. Ho is quite a bettor. Harry Froe-lich iB making book for him and he allows Harry to do what he likes and never g083 near him. Fred Foster has him on his staff. He has him bet a bunch on everything he starts and has him loser. He is also buying horses for Foster. He bought Sam McKeever for him for ,000 and when Foster started the colt a few days afterwards, Hill bet ,000 on him and lost, as Survivor won. He also bought Yellow Tail recently Souchon, b. f, by Himyar Tarantella. Hardy Pardee, b. c, by Pardee Sophia Hardy Climacus, b. c, by Riley Ada Reese. Glad Hand, b. f, by Deceiver Inquiry. King Barleycorn, ch. c, by Kantaka Nattot. Leo Planter, b. c, by Leonatus Plantress. Queen of Song, br. f, by Esher Sonata. Nailer, br. c, by Belvidere Miss Nailer. Elmer S., gr. c, by Julian Kitty H. False Lead, b. c, by Falsetto Rebellis. Nobleman, ch. c, by Top Gallant Lizzie English. Dandy H., b. c, by Panique Hannah. and paid 0,000 for him. I dont think much of his bargain, although I think Yellow Tail is a very fair colt. In my opinion Corrigan has more good two-year-olds than all the other owners in California. He has a smashing good colt in Golden Rule. St. Anthony is also a ffne colt aad Sardine is an extra good filly. It is early yet to get a reliable line on two-year olds, but I think if nothing happens to him, Golden Rule will beat any of them." Twenty-five eligibles were declared rrom the Crescent City Derby Wednesday. This leaves nineteen whose owners evidently think they have a good chance to capture the front end of the ,000 stake. The race will be run March 25 and the eligibles are now: Kentucky Colonel, b. c, by Kantaka Nocturn. Jolly Roger, b, c, by Order Happy Sallie II. Sea Lion, b. c, by Deceiver Sea View. The Kentuckian, ch. c, by Pirate of Penzance Lizzie Montrose. Hittick, b. c, by Julian Billetta. Boney Boy, ch. c, by Blitzen Sue B. Ordnung, ch. c, by Order Highland Love.
