NOTES OF THE TURF. W. C. Daly will depart from New Orleans shortly but his horses will be left there until near the close of the meeting. He has offered H. D. Brown ,000 for Merry Day but the offer has been refused. Auster. a bay colt by Candlemas out of Alberta by King Alfonso, in T. M. Berrys stable, is said to be one of the best two-yeai-olds at New Orleans. Gus Strauss, of Lexington, has sold to Charles Kane, of Cincinnati, the fonr-year-old chestnut gelding Dad Steele, by Rossington Inez, by Ten Broeck. H. J. Scoggan has a high opinion of a two-year-old sister to Dunois thathe has in training at the Louisville track. A. S. Labold, president of the Cincinnati Jockey Club, who has been sick for some week past, is regaining health. It is noticeable that Captain Bees is making his presence felt in a forcible way at the Crescent City track. Bernardillo will not bejpermitted to run any more at Oakland and a good riddance it is.
