GOSSIP OF THE TURF. An effort is being made in the Pennsylvania legislature to legalizing racing through a bill offered by Senator Muehlbronner of Allegheny. It provides that the act of 1895 against pool selling shall not apply to the selling of pools within the enclosures or grounds of agricultural societies or driving clubs incorporated by the courts of the counties within which such societies or clubs are located during the progress of race meetings or fairs, and provides further that it shall not be lawful to sell pools at any meeting during the months of November, December, January, February, March and April, or for more than twenty-five days in any one year. Nor shall any race meeting be held for j more than six days in any one month. Nor shall there be more than ten days racing in the aggregate in any one month on the grounds of agricultural societies or driving clubs located in the same county or within ten miles of each other. By the measure continuous racing would be prevented, and yet the agricultural and fair associations would be able to live.
