1 FOURTH OF JULY AT HAWTHORNE, Secretary Kuhl of the Chicago Jockey Club has announced his card for the Fourth of July racing at Hawthorne. The events settled upon are well devised and will furnish attractive contests. It will be observed that only two of the six races are at less than a mile. The entries close at 11 a. m. Monday. The events are as follows : First Race. Purse 00, of which 5 to second and 5 to third. For 2-year-olds. To carry 112 lbs. Winners of six or more race to carry 3 lbs. extra. Non-winners of four races allowed 3 lbs. ; of two, 7 lbs; maidens, 12 lbs. 5-8 mile. Second Race. Purse 00, of which 5 to second and 5 to third. For 3-year-olds that have not won two races of the value of 00 this year. Weight 7 lbs. below the scale. Non-winners this year of six races allowed 3 lbs.; if such have not won a race of 00 in 1899, 6 lbs. ; non-winners this year. 10 lbs. 7-8 mile. Third Race. Steeplechase. Purse 00, of which 5 to second and 5 to third. For 3-year-olds aud upward. Non-winners of two races this year, allowed 5 lbs. Four-year-olds ri upward that have not won this year, allowed 14 lbs.; if beaten once at this meeting. 20 lbs.; twice, 25 lbs. Full coarse. Fourth Race The Dewey Handicap. Purse 50. of which 00 to second and 0 to tbird. For 3 year-olds and upward. Entries close Friday, June 30; weights and declarations Monday, July 3. 1 1-8 miles. Fifth Race Selling. Purse 00, of which 5 to second and 5 to third. For 3-year-olds and upward. The winner to bs sold at auction. If entered to be sold for ,000 to carry weight forage; if for less, 1 lb. allowed for each 00 down to 00. 1 1-4 miles. Sixth Race Selling. Purse 00, of which 5 to second and 5 to third. For 4-year-olds and upward. The winner to be sold at auction. If entered to be sold for 00, to carry 5 lbs. less than weight for age; if entered to be sold for less, 2 lb i. allowed for each 00 down to 00. 1 mile.
