NOTES OF THE TURF. Jockey W. Martin and his employers, Fleisch-mann Sons, have agreed to disagree, and Martins contract to ride for the Cincinnati turfmen has been cancelled. Cause reported to be that Messrs. Fleischmann thought Martin should have won some races that he lost. 7 e Knights of the Saddle, an organization of tbe jockeys now riding at St. Louis, give a "Grand Entertainment and Hop" at tbe House of Public Comfort, St. Louis Fair Grounds, tODight. Assistant Secretary W. R. Letcher will do the starting at Hawthorne July 4. He is a veteran at the business, ami will have the assistance of some of Dick Dwyers competent aids. W. H. Clerk is said to have paid P. J. Dwyer 2,500 for Withers, which, on the basis of the colts running, would seem to be a remarkably extravagant price. James McCormick, trainer for Burns and Water-house in 1897, has engaged to train for L. V. Bell, whose horses have recently been in charge of J. J. Marklein. H. F. 8.. Milwaukee.
