The first two fougtit it out and both were ridden desperately. Johnson hit OBrieu repeatedly over tbo face and shoulijors with his whip in the stretch, and OBrien in return kept crowding over on Jack Hayes. Both riuers committed fouls, ana it wonld have besn a guess had the judges attempted to place ttie blame on either. The decisios in letting the race go as the horses finished was a fair and popular one. Both Johnson and OBrien were suspended for their reckless work. Chenier can oatfenco Jack Hayes, but tho latter has the most speed on the flat. The race was always between tue UrBt two. Zafallig was ruuning easily when he fell.
