GOSSIP OJT THE TURF. The judges at Hawthorne have made the fol-owing statement and recommendation in the i case of jockey Gray: On August 8th we suspended jockey C. Gray -pending investigation of his ride on ihe horse i Incidental, a legitimate contender in the first race of that day. In tho race in question the horse was running easily in fifth position. Near-ing tuo half-mile post, under a stiong pull, Gray J commenced tdning bis horse back every stride, j and continued doing so until he was almost last and fully twenty-five lengths behind the leaders, thereoy destroying any poSsibl chance of his winning the race. He kept in this position until coming into the stretch and thou b -gan to move up. When inside tho rixteeuth post, close in on the rail, he draw his whip and made a feeble exhibition of riding, finishing about six lengths behind tho winner In explanation Gray said he rode hard all the way to get to the front. We are satisfied he rode purposely to loss, and evidently took advantage of tho large field in the race, thinking his riding wonld not be observed. His suspension from all privileges will continue indefinitely, and we further recommend to tho license committee of tbe American Tnrf Congress that his license as j ckty be rovokod ifurthwith.
