NOTES OF THE TURF. Barney Scbreiber has sold his fast three-year-old bay filly Jinks, by Albert Hoodoo, to W. C. Whitney, terms private. Jinks is a full sister to the famous Mesmeriat, who is acknowledged to be the best two-year-old on the Metropolitan circuit. Jinks is considered to be one of the fastest three-year-old fillies in training this season. She scored twice at Saratoga and galloped six furlongB in 1:14 at Sbeepshead Bay in her last start. On account of her superb breeding. Jinks ought to make a valuable broodmare after her racing days are over. Jinks i3 the filly Pat Dunne bought of Captain W. H. May at Hawthorne last summer for ,000. Dunne thought the filly stood an excellent chance of winning the 0,000 Stallion Stakes at Hawthorne, but Jinks took sick a few days before the race and was in no Bhapo to do herself justice in the stake, which was won by Alpen, who beat Schreibars filly, Miss Marion. St. Louis Republic, Irving Diggs of Woodland came near losing his famous old broodmare Lilly Wright, dam of Diggs, a few days ago. She was found on her side in the pasture with one of her hind, legs swollen voiy badly, though no abrasion of the skin was visible. It is thought some poisonous insect must have bitten her. It was several daj s before she could walk, but she finally got up and has recovered her strength and appetite. San Francisco Breeder and Sportsman. It is announced that John J. Hyland will train for W. H. Clark next season, succeeding Matt Allen. Mr. Clark owns one of the strongest stables on tho Metropolitan circuit, beaded by Bonaatar, winner of this j ears Brooklyn Handicap. Hyland formerly trained for Gideon and Daly and August Belmont. The latter will retain his official connection with racing, but intends to sell noarly all the horses he has in training. Don dOro has been retired and will be sent back to Mr. August Belmont. Mr. Boden, who leased the racing qualities of the son of Rayon dOr Belladonna from Mr. Belmont, decided that it was best to retire him. During the spring meetiog at Gravesend Don dOro sustained a severe injury to his foot which ro cently grew worse, and drastic measures would have been necessary to bring about a complete cure. Trainer Eddie Hughes and W. A. Aste, the o ner of the horses formerly raced under the name of tho Kens.co stable, have parted. Mr. Aste evidently is a hard loser. While Sadducee was maintaining his unbeaten record, Hughes was good euou6h for him. Saduuceo, twica beaten, and Aste obtains a new trainer in the person of one McLaughlin, formerly a foreman for William Karrick. W. C. Whitney is now the owner of the yearling by Kugnon -Ballyhoo which was offered at auction by Eugene Loigh the other day.
