HARRY THOKURNS SOMERSAULT. An accident marred the sport at Harlem yea-terday and the crowd was compelled to hold its "breath for a few moments until it was assnred "that jockeys Bnrns on Sea Lion and Rose on John Baker had escaped. Horses and boys wore mixed up and shaken bnt came ont of the -accident without injury. The mix-up was a very qneer one and purely the fault of Master Rosa. He tried to push John Baker through next to the Tail on the stretch turn. Baker jumped on the filly, mixed up his feet and fell. Sea Lion, "behind Baker, turned a somersault with Barns. There was an ugly-looking mass of boys and liorses for a few seconds. The soft track was a savior for all, and Master Rose, remounting John Baker, rode him home and won third money. John Baker was a strong and natural favorito around 7 to 5. The talent fell with him. Had the horse not fallen it is very doubtful if he would have won. Ida Led ford 13 a good filly in the mud, and she won easily. and impressively. Lieutenant McGuigans Tulane has been running most inconsistently of late, that, after be was beaten awsy off in the second race, at a mile, the jadges decided that the racing coold -get along healthily without Tulane and in the fntur9 his entry will be refused at Harlem. Hittick won the Tulane race in a jaunty way from Long Dandy. Sam Lazarus, Esq. was an even money favorite, but Vititoe rode a bad raca on him and ho landed third. Harry Thoburn turned a form somersaalt of -weird scope in the third event. He is an exceptionally gcod mad runner, it is true, but his last race was in soft going and far from good. Consequently he was a 5 to 1 cbaace in the betting. Thoburn broke second, bat immediately went to the front and stepping the first quarter-in 25 seconds, opened up a big gap and won off by himself. The judg-s will investigate Tho-barns in and out running. The heavily playod favorite, Joe Shelby, ran a shabby race in the closing nine furlong event. He broke with the othar horses but pricked his ears and refused to go on. Beaten off a furlong going the first quarter, he took a notion to run and finished fifth well up in the bunch. Albert-vale 8t 8 to 1 won the race easily. His win was a reasonable one. Tom Bdrrett bat heavily on his filly, Brownie Anderson, and she won the fifth race off by hersolf. Florinel II., with Vititoe up, baat the barrier in the opening six furl mg scramble and. eased tip at the finish, was six langths to the good.
