GOOD RACING AT HAWTHORNE. There was an extra big crowd at Hawthorne Saturday and it was treated to some fine racing too. The afternoon was Quo and the track fast. The program, toq. premised the Bport that came out of its action. The Illinois Central make a bobble about once every year and their 12:55 train got into a mix-up with the switches BhortJy before the track was reached and the big train load of people was severely shaken up. No one was seriously icjured bat the engineer had a narrow escape and it was neceisiry to Eend him to the hospital. Jockey Tommy Burns was in good riding form again and ont of four mounts succeeded in landing three winnors. Ha finished outside of the money on Pan Charm his other mount, simply through carelessness. Bums ride on Jackanapes was the feature of the day. The gelding was in the fifth event, at a mile and one quarter, along with a fair lot. On account of Burns being up he was made favorite at abont 3 to 1. The field was evenly balanced and much interest wa3 centered in the rac3. It took about fifteen minutes to get the field away and passing the stand Egbart, Pay the Fiddler and Harry Nutter were racing on even terms at a sharp pace. Burns cleverly droppad in bahind and tcok things easy with Jackanapes. The trio in frout stopped the first three-quarters in 1:14 Then they naturally bs-gan to come back and by the time Burns was ready to make hia move there was nothing left for Jackanapes to contend with and Jackanapes won as he pleased. J. H. Smith bid up Jackanapes, entered to be sold for 700, to .,000. Mr. Schorr kept the gelding. The staeplecbaso was a spactacular contest There ware only six starters and all had been well schooled, consequently there were no falls or mistakes made. Senator OBrien sprung a "good thiog" in Czarowitz, who was backed from 10 to 1 to 7 to 1. Ths eld horse had plenty of speed and clearing the faccos like a bird had little or no trouble in winning. Ho was ridden by OBrien, who went to the front early and remained there all of the way. May Beach dieplayed more gameness than . usual in the second race. The fitly got away in 1 a tangle and it took her somo time to got into her stride and then she got into a pocket and Burns was compellod to take her up and go around. At the head of the stretch May Beach was driving and seemed to be beaten bat under call she responded gamely and eventually won easily. The Schcrrs seem to have a pretty sweet youngster in The Rush. This son of Order ban bien off all season, but seems to be rounding into form. He was at 2i to 1 and IChantress batter, and after getting a fljing start he won the last race all the way, and easily too. Flori-zar sot off badly, bnt ran a good race. Jimp seemed to fit into the fourth race, at a mile and a quarter, nicely. He bad only 96 up and at a favorites prico ho won like a gentleman. The initial three-quarter scramble went to John Brenocks Dagmar. He was well backed at about 4 to 1 and beat the favorite, Prince Harry in slow time.
