These trophies attracted considerable attention. The race for the Amateur ©up, which is over the Wither-* mile, will be run May 22, while the thirty-fourth renewal of the Belmont is on the program fot Thursday, May 24. Pierre Lorillard has suffered the loss of ona of the best broodmares at Rancocas Farm im the death of the chestnut mare Equality II., br Rayon dOr— Quits. Equality II. was the dam of Bloomer, Elfin and Democrat. The latter i a prominont candidate in this years English Derby. Thomas Berry, the well-known horseman ar- rived at Newport Tuesday with his stable. Berry was lately reinstated by the officials o* the Fair Grounds Racing Association, of St. Louis. He lias quite a string of horses which should do well in such capable and experienced | hands.
