Winner Ch. Sir Modred — h, by — Fidelity. Went to post at 2 :15. At post 8 minutes. Start fair. Won under a double pull; second, third, fourth and fifth driving. Hermoso was in fine form, was lucky, well ridden and won most impressively. This fellow is a smart sprinter but three-quarters of a mile is about as far as ho cares to go. Algareta ran a nice race. She was jostled and interfered with considerably at the start but weaved her way through gamely on the far turn and at one stage in the stretch looked dangerous. She may have been a trifle short. Braw Lad hung in the run through the stretch and both Abe Furst and Boney Boy would have beaten him in a few more strides. Boney Boy from where he got off, ran as good a race as did the winner. Collins, who rode him. did everything but fall off. Abe Furet is cherry ripe and can win at once. Ed Gartland II. was interfered with repeatedly in the stretch. Ben Ledi showed some speed but retired early. Rival Dare raa a good race for her. Peace ran below the mark. She. perhaps, will do better in the mud. Scratched— 9579 Whistle Wing, 107. Winner— Ch. c, by Woodmoss— Cantatrice. Went to post at 2 :50. At post 5 minutes. Start good. Won hand ridden only, but out to the last ounce: second and third doing their best. Woodtrice won a lucky race. He seemed to be going wellin hand on the last turn and at one time in the stretch was a full length in front of Hoods Brigade, but in the last sixteenth he tired badly, and when Hoods Brigade came to him, he bore in considerably. No intentional foul was committed, neither did Rose lodge a complaint against Narvaez. No notice was taken of the interference. Frangible took the shortest route and had no excuses. Ben Chance showed no early speed, but lie finished with a tremendous rush and likes to go a long route. Waterwick ran fairly well. Tommy OBrien, like Ben Chance, was running very fast in the stretch. Throw Thomas Careys race out for future calculation*. Cheesestraw was prominent for five furlongs. Scratched— 17502 Al Caskey, 103. Woodtrice, place. 3 to 1 ; show, 7 to 5. Winner— B. f, by Strathmore — Lavinia. Went to post at 3 :25. At post 12 minutes. Start good considering the green lot. Won cleverly. There was plenty of action behind the winner. The Cuban Girl acted like an old-timer at the post, got away well on her stride and showed a phenomenal turn of speed early. The first quarter in 231 seconds on the turn stopped all the others, and The Cuban Girl only had to canter the res". of the journey. Bonnie Hallie and The Bronze Demon both ran gamely. The latter was bumped and interfered with several times through the stretch, and only just did get up in timeto be third, Cora Goetz broke flying, showed speed, but hung when the pinch came. Grace Cup made up i lot of ground in the last quarter. There was considerable interference at the start. Princess Tatyana, Nettie B., and Miss Hassen were the sufferers. The latter wa6 jammed into the fence and came near falling. Scratched— Madam Butterfly, 107. Overweights— Grace Cup. 2 pounds. The Cuban Girl, place, evens ; show, 1 to 2. Winner— B. f, by Kingston — Seville. Went to post at 4 :05. At post 4 minutes. Start good. Won hard driven ; second and third J the same. The Lady was much the best and despite bad racing luck and also a bad ride she won finely. Martin got the filly bumped, cut off, and badly interfered with several times in the first half, but she stood all of thi6 gamely and at the head of the stretch was winning easily. Along about the sixteenth post Martin began to take matters easily and before he knew what happened up came Molo with a rush and almost stole the race. Molo is in good form and ran a good race. Nobleman took the longest route and finished very fast. Strangest came like a whirlwind the last half and can be considered in almost any company over a distance of ground. Eva Rice was raced I into subjection the first half and quit badly in the stretch. The Elector looked high in llesh but showed speed and was probably short. Myth can do better. So can Donna Rita. Bradford had the latter on the extreme outside all the way. Scratched— lt53822Sam Fullen, 91 ; 17668 The Jefferson, 102 ; 17068 Major Mansir, 88. Corrected weights— Eva Rice, 106. Winner— B. h, by Prince Royal— Penelope. Went to post at 4 :35. At post 3 minutes. Start good. Won handily; second whipped out. Third and fourth were driving to the limit. Dr. Walmsley was a good horse in the race and was also nicely ridden. Narvaez allowed Her Favor to cut out the running and cleverly waited for her to come back to him, which she did on the far turn. At the head of the stretch there was a general closing up and for an instant Topmast looked to have a chance, but when Narvaez gave Dr. Walmsley his head he drew out of harms way in a jiffy. Red Pirate had troubles of his own during the early part of it and this considered, ran a good race. He finished stoutly and nosed out Her Favor for third place. Holdup was badly interfered with on the stretch turn. The winner was run up 00 over his entered price by S. C. Wagner but retained. Scratched— 175673Evelyn Byrd, 99. Corrected weights— Chancery, 101. Garry Hermann had to be fully extended to win and hung at the end as though short. He showed all of his southern speed and is a good colt that improves with constant racing. Robert Waddell is game to the core. Seaton flogged him for all he was worth from the three-eighth post home and the gelding hung on with bulldog tenacity. From a poor beginning Invictus did well. He came from a long way back in the stretch and outgamed Lillie Pantland for third place. The latter is a fast filly and likes mud. Ben Magen was raced into submission by Garry Hermann the first three furlongs. Lord Lisa is a big, handsome youngster but seems to be of no account. Scratched— 176962 Battus, 96. Overweights— Lord Lisa, 2 pounds; Invictus, 2. Garry Hermann, place, out. Robert Waddell, place, 8 to 5; show, 1 to 2. Invictus, show, evens.
