Winter, off flying, led her held from start to finish and won very handily. Peter Duryea ran a very fair race and is evidently improving. Oconee finished well and will bear watching. Avatar, heavily backed, had no chance when the barrier went up. Neither Aristo nor Kaftan showed much speed. Overweights— Garrabrant, 2 pounds. Winter, place, 4 to 5; show, 1 to 3. Lillian Reed was coming fa6t at the finish and so was Possum. Samovar showed early speed, but Quit badly after going half the journey. Denman Thompson, off well, had all he could do to stand off the challenge of Luego in the stretch, the latter looking very much like a winner. Sam Lyons ran well for over half the route but quit in the final sixteenth. Irving Mayor ran only a fair race. Matin will do a great deal better later on. She had good racing luck and won a gamely contested race, standing a drive handsomely. Esther Riggs has improved to a marked degree. She ran a good, honest race. Ethel Wheat also displayed speed and was somewhat a surprise party. Regina Lee did not show the speed looked for and greatly disappointed her backers.
