Con-testor showed great speed and after racing Cupidity and Withers into submission fought it out gamely with Magnificent. The latter was outrun in the first half, and Spencer delayed his run a bit too long. When he made his move he came on the outside all around his field and would have won in another stride. Gonfalon finished strongly and got second place in the last stride. He outgamed Lady Lindsay when it came to a drive. Danforth was raced into exhaustion in going up the hill on the backstretch. Maximo Gomez, after closing a big gap. tired. Asquith was always outrun. Hammock aud Central Trust were probably short. Both tired badly in the final furlong.
