GAR It Y HERMANNS HAMMOND. Lakesides sixth day produced ■ card of seven races, one of which, The Hammond Stakes. four and a half furlongs, for two-year-olds, was worth to the winner ,150, to the Bemad horse 50, to the third 00. The day was slightly disagreeable, there being a condition of fog, sun and showers, but the attendance was the usual one. W. H. Jackson. Jr.s. Tenny Belle, trained by John Brannou. the favorite for the first race, ran as if short. The winner, Bonnie Hallie, had at a previous start at the present meeting run a good second, and she carried the money of the wise ones. Dr. RowelTs Bonitary ran second and kept up the credit of the stable. Barney Schrieber, big and lusty, was out and so was the "original Kit" looking fit to run or do most anything else. Gold Fox won as he pleased, the horse being in fifth position up the back stretch. From the last sixteenth home he was flying. H. Robinson got in again and Walkenshaw ran second. paying 6 to 1 place, 3 to 1 show. Nobleman, tha strongly backed second choice, showed that the distance was too far or else an incompetent jockey destroyed his chance. Old Refugee refused to break until his nose was in front, and Mr. Dwyer might have left him at the post without incurring the displeasure of anyone. Four youngsters being scratched for the Hammond Stakes, left Garry Herrman a 1 to 4 shot. He won handily, as usual, after allowing Money Muss and Sig Levy to lead into the straight. One would think that Mark-leins colt was in some handicap, as the boy made a move to shake him up when close in and Garry Hermann was buck jumping. Sig Levy ran disappointingly, he stopping badly in the last eighth. Possart, who ran third, is a fair sort of looking two-year-old. May Beach won running away. The sensation of the day came in the fifth race when Oweusboro. owned by Mrs. P. M. Civill, a 30 to 1 shot went out and took command after a half mile had been covered and held the lead to the wire. Microscope, another 30 to 1 shot, was second, the favorites, Schnell-laufer and Ben Chance, finishing third and fourth. Under the non-syndicate system of betting the price of the first two horses would most likely have been 100 to 1. Owensboro was backed for 00 at S to 1 to Bhovbya nartv taking a chance, but the straight play on him amounted to little. For the sixth race Hop Scotch opened at 20 and was soon knocked down to 6 to 1. Tillie W.. the favorite, could get no better than third, but she ran the best race, inasmuch as from the inside position at the post she was crowded out and knocked away back. La Princessa at stages was many lengths in the lead up the backstretch, but the finish with Barney F. was close.
