RACING AT LAKESIDE. The Lakeside judges were certainly busy officials yesterday and uo doubt they rested well and breathed ighs of relief when they returned to their homes. In these times of tricky jockeys and "grab-all*1 owners a presiding judge has his own troubles keeping everyone in line, figuring the "dope"* and interviewing jockeys. Jockey Narvaez is riding in good form at present and apparently wants to win all of his races so he will take almost any kind of a chance to get to the wire first. He had the mount on Woodtrice in the closing mile and one-sixteenth race and at the head of the stretch, seeing that Blue Lick apparently had him beaten, he resorted to unfair tactics by pulling over close to Blue Lick and hitting him a terrific bump which knocked the latter off hi.- stride and ruined whatever chance he had of winning. In the meantime, however, Miller on Bright Night, crept up on the inside next to the rail and before Narvaez knew what had happened stole the race. After weighing in Cay wood lodged a claim of foul against Narvaez and Woodtrice but it was not allowed. Third judge Chhington said after the race that there was some bumping at the head of the stretch, but claimed that it cut no figure in the result. Frank Doss, who has been extremely active around different race tracks throughout the country in running up horses in selling races, stirred up a hornets neat after he raised John BrenockV fiily Emma R., winner of the third event, from f9M to si. 000. Mr. Brenock seldom bothers any one in selling races and likes to be left unmolested himself. Consequently, after the run-up Mr. Corrigan"s ex-partner had blood in his eye. and declared himself in a very loud manner. It MOBM that his gelding Vincennes was claimed by H. Robinson after the last race Saturday. This riled the old gentleman to a certain extent, but when Doss 00 raise on Emma R, came along Mr. Brenock became excited and declared that if he was bothered anymore in selling races he would use hi6 influence and interfere all he could with the running of the Chicago tracks during the summer. Of course, this was all idle talk, but it is possible that from now on Mr. Brenuan will not be bothered by the selling race sharks. Out of the second race, which was at a mile, came a spectacular finish, which greatly enthused the crowd. Jim McCleevy was an even money chance, but at the head of the stretch it was 100 to 1 against his chances. Along about the eighth post, however, McCleevy took a notion to run. and in the last one hundred yards or so he came like a flash, and in the very last stride got up in time to win by a nose from Major Man~ir. he being the same distance in front of Rosavannah and Elsie Venner. Major Mansir under a poor ride, ran the best race and should have won. Garry Hermann certainly holds all the two-year-olds that have so far shown up at the track safe, and at the liberal price of 1 to 2 he cantered home with the long end of the purse in the fifth event. It took Orimars best effort to beat Walken-shaw by a head in the fourth race. The Litter is in excellent form now and was ridden to perfect ion by R. Narvaez. The usual daily surprise came in the first race, Janowood, at the false price of 20 to 1, winning in a drive from Teuny Belle.
