ALARI SCHKIRS KENWOOD. Garry Hermanns defeat by Alard Sclieck in the Kenwood Stakes and Sidney Lucas im- . pressive win of the nine furlongs handicap were the principal features at Washington Park yesterday, but besides this, jockey T. Burns, who had but two chances to ride, managed to win both his races. The Kenwood Stakes is at five furlongs and Garry Hermann, with top weight. 125 pounds, and jockey Cay wood up. was a stanch favorite at evens, while only 11 to 10 was offered asainst Alard Scheck. Garry Hermann found his 125 pounds quite a burden in the mud, and had to be contented with second money. Burns was last away from the post with Alard Scheck, but he shot him through on the rail on the far turn, and by taking the shortest route managed to be in front when the stretch was reached and remained there to the end, beating Charles Head Smiths .0,000 colt with great ease. Sidney Lucas, with 115 pounds up and Cay-wood in the saddle, romped home four lengths in front of Barrack and Bannockburn in the five-furlong handicap, thereby showing himself to be a grand colt and demonstrating that no little 70-pound hoy can handle him properly. The last time the Derby winner started was in the Oakwood Handicap, where he was beaten off. J. Martin, a cracking good boy for his pounds, was up. but besides getting off badly he was unable to make Sidney Lucas fully extend himself. Yesterday Caywood gave the sluggish son of Top Gallant— Addie C. II. to understand that he was the boss, aud the consequence was that the colt made the horses he was pitted against look cheap. Burns is by far the best jockey now riding in the west, and the crowd seemed well pleased to see him win on both of the horses, Dangerline and Alard Scheck. that he rode. Dangerline. thanks to Burns vigorous finish, beat Leo Newell by a nose in the second event, which was at five-eighths of a mile, for maiden two-year-olds. In this race Steve LHommedieu, the plunger, started Elmer L., a fine looking colt by Esher — Derochment. and it was one of the hottest tips that has been circulated on local tracks so far this season. It was common talk before the race that the colt would win un extended, and opening at 8 to 5 he was hastily backed down to 6 to 5. Bullman was up on the "good thing," but he could never get near the front, and finished a distant third. The regular first race was declared off and a six furlong selling affair wa- substituted which Hermoso. the 13 to 10 favorite, won as he pleased. Hermoso was entered to be sold for .000 but was raised to ? 1,600 by Mr. Simmons but Mr. A. C. Clark retained his horse for the customary odd fiver. Moroni, at 2 to 1, won the fifth race from "eend to eend," and in the same way Orimar disposed of Great Bend in the closing mile and a sixteenth selling race. On Orimar, it is reported, Steve LHommedieu won 0,000.
