Sortie was lucky and well ridden. Wink-Held was jammed in on the rail on the far turn. He then waited until the stretch was reached and the natural spread came before he made hie move. Then the colt came away finely. Oscar Tulle rma his best race. Forkford was badly interfered with on the far turn. Propeller made up a lot of ground in the last three furlongs. Shut Up showed a lot of speed. Guy H. had no high i speed but has the reputation of outworking all the good youngsters in the morning. Hampshire I tired badly in the stretch. Went to post at 2:55. Off at the first break to a good start considering the size of the field. . Won driving to the limit ; second and third the same. John Grigsby was the best and could have 3 won off by himself but Knight let the colt stumble twenty yards from the wire and it almost t cost him the race. Lucille Bramble got away flying, took the shortest route, was well ridden, , and had no mischances. Loyaletta was tiring badly at the end. Parmenion ran a cracking good race. Winner-B. f, by Falsetto— Manola. Went to post at 3:25. At post 12 minutes. Start straggling. Won well in hand; second, third d and fourth were h»rd at it. Etta was the best of a bad lot. She was well ridden by J. Waldo, , who placed her with judgment in the first part of the race and made his move at the right time in n the stretch. Plant;-in was well handled and had no excuses. Maharajah showed a lot of speed d and hung on well under pressure at the end. Leando was off badly and ridden the longest it route. Better handled, he would have been second and would have given the winner a stout t argument. John W. Patton threw Weir in a false break and ran away two miles. The field was 6 badly strung out all the way. Overweights— John W. Patton. 2 pounds; Leando, 4. Etta, place. 8 to 5 ; show. 4 to 5. Plantain, place, 4 to 5: show. 2 to 5. Went to post at 4:10. At post 2 minutes. Start fair. Won easing up. Scales improved wonderfully J" since his last race at Hawthorne and made hii field look cheap. He galloped along * under a double pull all the way and was never fully extended. The Lady, conceding weight to ;o all other starters, ran a high-class race. Greenock suffered from poor riding and this considered d he made a good showing. Goldone was prominent for the first half and will be a hard horse to » beat when placed right. Dissolute got into a jam at the start and never had a chance after that 4 Lamachns was beaten off all the way and can do better. Scales, place. 2 to 1 ; show, evens. Dandy Jim came to life with a start and showed a dazzling turn of speed and |iite a hit of quality. He was beaten off in hi~ last race at Hawthorne, but in this race he made his j* field look cheap. Barbara M. wa- under pressure all the way and made a game showing. Edith jj J. closed stoutly at the end. Telephone iirl showed a lot of speed, as did Icon, but both quit badly when the pressu-e was applied. Foudo got ayvay in a tangle and never had a chance. «• Woodstick was dull of speed. Off at the first break to a good start. Won handily after an early drive. The next two were doing their best. Winkfield rode an altogether different race on John Baker than he did the last time he was up on him, and the horse plainly showed hie superiority over Mint Sauce. The latter is a rank coward, and when he was not able to outrun The Lady in Blue it was evident that he had no chance to win. and in the stretch under pressure he swerved badly. The Lady in Blue showed a fine turn of speed and ran a high-class race. Vincennes was badly interfered with and crowded on the first turn. The other two were beaten off.
