George La Bar was lucky in the Bend off and had clear sailing, but was tiring and in a hard drive with Matlock only saved the race in the last nod. Matlock had to work his way through on the back-stretch. Had he been as lucky as George La Bar at the start he would have won. Salvado got third place in the last stride. Rey Salazar and Queen Anne were used up in chasing the winner. Scratched— 19775 Cavotte, 98. Overweights— Rey Salazar, 1 pound ; Viola K., 44 ; Knowle, 4 ; Save, 1. The Copper stumbled and went to his knees at the far turn. He would have been a contender but for this. Edgeworth stopped to a walk in the last eighth. Her race was out of line.
