Gues Work ran better than yesterday but was lucky to be second A strong rider on Great American would have got the place. Great American got off poorly but made up a lot of ground. Punctual showed early speed but tired and quit as usual. Georgia Gardner and Hand Vice ran to their form. Colchester, place, 2 to 5; show, out. Entry, place, *tol; show, 7 to 5. He was doing his best at the end, but held the other two safe. Thedistance was against Fleuron. She had the field beaten at the sixteenth post, then tired. Bold Knight ran a good race and was closing strongly at the finish. Turuey showed early speed, but died away in the stretch. Mar-1 timas ran a ten pound better race than in his last previous effort and showed wonderful improvement. He raced head and head with Charentus all the way and outstayed him at the eud, but the latter was badly ridden. He seemingly had the race won at the furlong post, but Howell drew his whip and then tloundered all around in his saddle. He changed his whip three times in the last furlong. Advancn Guard ran a good race, but Martin was too light to do him justice. Bannockburn ran well to the stretch and then quit and pulled up very lame. Scratched-20236 Wait Not, 106. Queen Carnival met with some interference but could not have beaten the firet two. Water Plant ran to form and showed speed to the stretch. Tammany Chief, place, 3 to 5; show, out. The start was good when the Hag fell, but all pulled up but Exit. Althea showed that she was best. She got otl in front, but Brien pulled up, losiug about half a dozen lengths. Brien then hugged the rail all the way aud -aved many length-. Althea was drawing away iu the last hundred yards. Specific showed speed to the last furlong, but the pace in the first part told on him. Precursor was pulled up at the start, but ran a splendid race. Martin rode him well, but is not strong enough. Hood s Brigade ran to form. Scratched 20277 Prejudice, 92. Althea, place, 8 to 5; show, 3 to 5. Specific, place, 3 to 5; show, out. Precursor, place, out.
