RACING OVER AT NEWPORT NEWPORTAlthough Although entries had closed the day previous I there was no racing at Newport yesterday and it was announced that there will be no more at that track until some date not named in Oc ¬ tober Tho immediate cause for the cessation of racing was beyond doubt the failure to ob ¬ tain consent from the other organiza ¬ tions associated with Newport to the estab ¬ lishment of the iniquity called a foreign book but why the determination to close so suddenly without notice to the owners who have supported the track was arrived at is a mystery Racing at Newport is a losing busi ¬ ness on tho face of things and why it has been carried on so long under adverse circumstances is another puzzle The flattening out was so sudden that a number of owners of indifferent racers must find themselves stranded high and dry with St Louis offering the nearest by relief
