MISS BENNETT AGAIN AGAINMiss Miss Bennett was the bright particular star of yesterdays offerings at Washington Part the speedy filly repeating her victory of July 9th although the time was threefifths of a sec ¬ ond slower At the weights she appeared to hold her field safe in the fine fettle she is in nt present and justified this belief Anna Bain attempted to live with her for a spell but long before the stretch had been reached she drew away frcm her as if she was tied The Bush under punishment made a bold bid to close on her in the final eighth but she never faltered winning all out by a length and a half with the May colt five in front of Gonfalon The last named ran a dull race his speed probably hav ¬ ing been taken away from him in some degree by his long race of July 10th Anna Bain run into exhaustion by Miss Bennett quit badJy in the final run in inHeadwater Headwater took the days opener in rather a handy fashion He was easily tha best at the weights After Buffering Van Hoorebeke to run in the lead for tho first half Enight shot the Jones gelding past him as if he was tied and the race thereafter was never in doubt Beauty Book was easily tho best of tbe others and ran a pretty fair race all told It seemed as if Eva Bice had a chance at the head of the stretch ¬ out she faltered at the last eighth poet and was thoroughly tired by the time tbe lino bad been reached besides having been slightly cut Bri ¬ gade could not concede tho weight nor was J Martin strong enough to do him justice He was never in the hunt at any stage of the race raceJulia Julia Junkin took the fainthearted Mabel Winn into camp in the second race when the latter appeared all over an easy winner Mabel Winn started out with a big advantage and ap ¬ parently running well within herself had a lead of nearly two lengths a furlong out but the Brown filly gradually closed on her catching her in the last fifty yards and boating her out easily by two lengths with the Reppaes filly two lengths in front of Ernest Parham There was a long delay at the post caused by the enbstitu ting of J Martin for Davisson on Eentucky Muddle who ran into the outside rail in one of the breakaways and injured the letters leg legBrownie Brownie Anderson with a feather on her back beat out Bennetts Laureate in the fifth race in a drive after leading frcm tbe first quarter She won by a length with Laureate one in front of Alaska who ran a fine race from a bad send off and would probably have won with any kind of racing luck luckThe The last race of the day was taken by Her ¬ mann Caseins good colt Bed Tip who led from start to finish Janbert and Doreen closed on tbe celt when a furlong out but Enigbt never let up on him and under an energetic ride held hie advantage to the end winning by one length with Doreon a neck in the lead of Jaubert who was tiring at the end endFor For an off day the sport was very good al ¬ though the attendance was not up to the stand ¬ ard owing to the mediocre attractions attractionsFor For this afternoon a grand card is provided with the Young Handicap as the central attrac ¬ tion A magnificent field of fourteen of the best bor sea at the track are named to start and thfr only thing to regret is that Sam Hildrothe era ck Waring is not in the list of acceptances Three American Derby winners and a Futurity winner are down to start in what is sure to be a fiercely contested and thrilling race If the fourteen that have accepted weights go to the post the race will be worth 5825 to the winner a sum well worth coveting by any owner ownerThe The other races are well filled and with good horses all through The opening scramble for CONTINUED ON SECOND PAGE MIS3 BENNETT AGAIN Qonlinuad from Firs Page twoyearolds has Charles W Meyer Memnon Helen Print and Ro3ewar among those carded to go Vulcain Montanic Maud Gonne Ser ¬ rano and Money Muss aro among the sprinters In the second race and fonr cracks are in the flf tU race where Mr Brown Caviar The Lady and Jim Inez ara to meet at weights that prom ¬ ise a smashing good race All round the pros poet is for a day of rarely good racing
