HAWTHOBNES GOOD SEND-OFF. Those who Tieited Hawthorns yesterday and expected to see a muddy track were badly looted, as the cool winds of Sunday and yesterday dried tbe coarse oat fast and it was simply low. Bbould no rain fall today the track will fee in fairly good condition. The card of seven Mces yesterday was an excellent one, many of 4ande finishes being close and of an exciting na--tare. The star attraction of the day was the Fleetwood Stakes, a handicap for all ages at six imrloogs, ,000 added. The finish was one of the most spirited that has been seen here-about this year, Maggie Davis, Miss Bennett and Money Muss passing ovr the line so closely together that only the judges conld separate them. They were placed in the foregoing order. Money Mnsa darted to tbe front at the flag dip, bat was immediately j lined by Maggie Davis, with Miss Bennett fairly close np. The first two ran lapped np to the last fifty yards, where they were joined by Miss Bennett. It was a ding dong finish between the first three, Maggie Davis getting her nose in front f Miss Bennett in the last few strides, while Mosey Mobs, which faltered near the lino, was only beaten the shortest of heads by Miss Bennett. Maggie Davis displayed great gameness near the end and showed herself to be a moH ensisteLt maro. Money Unas stood a drive for a sixteonth of a mile. Headwater rati within hailing distance up to the last eighth where he fell away beaten. Janbert could never get up and was well out of the contest before the head of the stretch had been reached. The time 1:15 was good considering tbe dead condition f tho track. .Argregor took the free handicap, a dash of one and one-sixteenth miles for thre.yehr-olds and upward, by a nose in a rattling firieh from Obia, which had led clear up to the last fifty yards. Boney Boy wss third, two and a half lengths back. Argregor was ridden to perfection by Coburn, who laid away with him up to the final quarter and thri made a wel1. timed rash in the run in. Pink Coat finished jglxth and has evidently gone back. Birkenruth threw the mile and a quarter race away on Flying Torpedo, allowing False Lead to get his nose first over the line in the last f strides through sheer carelessness. Barilla was third one and a half lengths bck. Flying Torpedo should havebsen returned a handy wiatier. Saintly made a runaway race of it in the steeplechase, winning in a cantor by one and a half lengths from Captain Conover, which beat Corrillo sev n for scond place. The other winners were Mondoro, Evening Star and Brutal.
