BOLLIKG BOER IN FRONT. Although there were do stake rsceB np for solution yesterday at Hawthorne the card presented by Secretary Fheridan Clark was a fair one and wbb productive of come excellent racing. The track was at its very beet and good time was made in the various races. The attendance wt s as large as usual, both tiers of the grandttand being well filled. The principal race of the dy was the fourth, a free handicap puree of 00, for all ages at one mile and seventy yards. Of the four, that started Boiling Boer was thought to be much the best, being held at 3 to 5 in the betting. Baird, to the astonishment of many, started out to make the running, leading by a fair margin up to the turn for home, where he began to feel the effects of the hot pace, and was eoon in dis tress Boiling Boer, cleverly nursed up to this point, closed up rn him eaeily and passed him with a ruBh. Be won by a length under persua-eion -from Malay, which beat Brutal rathor easily by a length and a half for second place. Malay seemed to have a chance when opposite the paddock, but faltered when put to the rub. Brutal about ran his race. He appears to run best in the mud. Baitd has won his two races previous to j esterdays start by coming with a jush from the rear in the last eighth, but yesterday Goimley tried to win with him in front and had bim in bad straits by the time the head of the stretch had been reached. Mac Gj le, after many unsuccessful attempts hereabout this year to win at least, took down a pmse for his owner, capturing the last race, a dish cf one raiJe in the etsieet fashion possible. He ltd by a length at the first quarter, but when going down the bsckstietch Goal Banter assumed command holding it" until nearing the last eighth post where be began to tire and it was no trouble for Mac Gyle to pick bim up and win in a canter by five lengths. Goal Bunner was eo tired at the end that he came within an ace of losing second place to Cluster. The latter finished fast and about ran nis race. Johnny McCartey showed speed for a quarter of a mile and then fell gradually away. The race was nowhere near his true form. Valdcze race, in the light of Ihb good ehowing several days ago, was more cf a joke than an attempt at raciDg. He was hopeleEBly beaten off frtm start to finish and showed but little speed at any part of the contest. Specific was not within a eik or to t f a gocd race and ran far below what he is ce pable of doing. Hard Knot was simply thrown into the second race, a daeh of one and one-sixteenth miles. He made a runaway race of the affair leading from start to finish and n inning in a canter by five lengths. L Laureate was Becond a neck in the lead tf Beseda. The latter closed up with a great rush at the end, but it was too late to be of any avail. Uncle Tom ran a surprisingly good race and was right there up to the last sixteenth. Sarilla had all she wanted soon after turning for home atd hardly ran up to her form. Ade-lante showed early speed. The talent could see nothing but Delmarch in the days opener, a dash of six furlongs, backing him down from 7 to 5 to even money. The winner turned up in Artena, which came good and strongly in the final furlong and won with the greatest of esse by two snd a half lengths from Delmarch, which beat Automaton a length for second rlaca. Delmaich appeared to be the winner when opposite the paddock, but could not stall off Aitenas strong rush at the end. Evas Darling got off with a running start and shorn d speed for five furlongs, but went up in the air when the pinch came. Bcomerack, supposed to be a good thing, was never a factor at any part of the dash. The two-year-old race was taken by that good and consistent colt of Pat Dunnes, J. Y. Eirby. which finished like a cyclone and won much as his rider pleased. Jack Battlin, off with a running start tried to play bide and seek with his field but the hot pace that he set soon began to tell on him and he was in bad straits by the time the final quarter had been reached. Here Coburn brought up Bazzer with a rush and assumed what seemed like a winning lead but when nearing the last sixteenth post Winkfield drew up fast with J. V. Eirby passing the former as if h was tied. He won easily by two lengths from Buzzer which beat Merriment one for second place. Buzzer ran by far the best race she has shewn here -this year. Merriment, badly outrun in the first part of the scramblo, closed up stoutly next to the inside rail and ran about to her form. Pronta made up much ground from a poor beginning and was runnii g fast at the end. Gallantrie bad no chance from where she got off. Jack Battlin fell away badly beaten in the last eighth. School for Scat dal simply towroped her field in the Sfth race, a dash of six furlongs, leading way eff to bereelf all the way and winning by three and a half lengths from Sevoy, which just lasted long enough to beat Banco a neck on the post for second money. The filly got off with a running start, which aided her materially in her victory. Sevoy was tiring badl at the end. Banco about ran his race. None of the others had a chance at any part of the race and were badly outrun from flag drop. The quarter between the five-eighths post and three-eightbB post was run in 22 seconds. A leading incident of the day followed the deciaion of the race won by Hard Enot. The judges were displeased with the riding of jockey Sullivan on BeBeda and had been holding him on the blacklist because of his recent poor showing on Artena, Nellie Waddell and other horses. Deeming that he had not tried to win with Beseda they promptly ruled him off and be is not likely to be restored again as he was only reinstated last spring after having been down for about two years.
