D I I I 1 THE CONQUEROR II. IN FORM. . Harlems cumbersome card yesterday was run off before one of the largest gatherings of the week. The fields in most caB.es were decid-J edly unwieldy, but despite thiB fact Starter Dwyer got them off promptly and his clever work with the flag wbb the feature of the days racing. The main race of the day waa the fourth, a dash of one mile for all ageB. The victory of The Conqueror II. in this dash about the circle came in the nature of a surprise, as he haB not started in a long time, and it waa supposed he needed a race or two to put him on edge. Constellator was made an even money favorite, but rewarded the confidence placed in him by his many supporters by finishing a dismal last. The Lady and he ran lapped in the lead for nearly six furlongs, when The Lady drew away, leading by a length well into the stretch. About the lasteighth post The Con-1 queror. II. came fast and true and nailed her." She stood the challenge for a few Btridea and then cried quits. The Conqueror II. then went on and won eaaily by one and a half lengths from Ben Battle, which came fast in the last sixteenth and beat The Lady three-quarters of a length for second place. Conatellator tired and quit badly in the last quarter. Lord Chesterfield finally awakened i to the occaaion and, fencing truly throughout, won the steeplechase without much trouble by five lengths from Saintly, which beat Queenship a neck for second place. In the last sixteenth the last named attemptod to get through on the inside rail, but 8aintly pinched her sharply off, throwing her off her stride. For this Saintly was promptly disqualifled.tQueenship being-placed second and Corrillo third. Coronatus and Coley ran out of the course during the race and Patroon threw his rider over the first jump. The last named ran away three milea before being caught. Julia Junkin,:concading weight to everything in the fifth race, a dash of five and a half fur-longa for two-year-olde, simply played with her field going into the lead easily after the first quarter had been run, and remaining there to tho end. She won by three lengths from Hoodwink, which beat Tommy Foster one for second place. The last named ran a much improved race over hie last showing. Coacoa ran a disappointing race and it should not be taken seriously. Mollie T. showed speed but could not carry it far. It was a very fast race. John A. Clarke proved to be tho best of a poor lot of youngsters in tho days opener, a dash of five furlongs for two-year-olds. Ho came with well sustained speed in the last sixteenth and won going away by a length from Our Pride which boat Lady Bird the same distance for second placo. Smiths Beel and Fado Meny ran indifferently. Mountebank, with Coburn in the saddle, took the second race quite easily. He was held well up to the leader until turning for homo, whore he was called upon and responded with a rush, coming on and winning by threo lengths from Little Lois, which beat Baugh Naugh Gene a head for Becond placo. Tho Butcher was made the favorite in this raca, but was hopelessly beaten off from start to finish. Erema on tho strength of her clover performances in Canada was sprung as a hot thing in the sixth rac, a dash of six furlongs. The talent was right in this instance as she simply spreadeagled her field and won in hollow fash-ion by a length from B. G. Fox, which beat J. H. Barnes four for second place. B. G. Fox finished with a cyclonic rush but had no chance to beat the winner. Lady Idris showed speed for CONTINUED ON SECOND PAQB, THE CONQUEROR II. IN FORM. v Continued from First Faga. five furlongs but died away when the, pinch came. trSteeplechasa Jockey Worthington was suspended indeflnitoly by the Harlem judges for his brutal treatment of Coronatus in the eteeplechase. 8t. Marcos will start today in the Chicago Stakes in the colors of 8. C. Hildreth, having been purchased by him yesterday from B. C. Bunbury. . 81y arrived yesterday morning at Harlem and will Btart in the Speed Stakes Monday, n Jockeys C. Johnson and J. Johnston were fined 550 each by the Harlem judges for foul riding in yesterdays steeplechase. A very taking card is provided for this afternoon, the number of good horBes named to start giving it a midsummer appearance. The star feature is the Chicago Stakes, a daBh of a mile with 2,500 added, penalties and allowances. If all named to start go to the post it will be worth ,485 to the winner so it can be seen that it is a prize well worth Btriving for and it promises a sensational contest. A card that embraces the names of such rapid performers as George Arnold, Miss Bennett, Money Muss, St. Marcos, Fancy Wood, Pink Coat, Odnor, Rolling Boer, Headwater, An3es, School for Scandal, Toata, Ed Austin, Nellie Waddell, Magi, Jiminez, Constellator, Henry of Trasta-mare, Gallantrie, J. V. Kirby, Bessie 8pahr, Elsie L., Jack Rattlin, Denman Thompson, Formero, Canova, MacGyle, Rival Dare and Sevoy as probable starters in its various races is quite remarkable at this season of the year 1 and in the present condition of the Harlem track it is quite certain that the winners must Ecora faBt time.
