ODNORS HANDICAP. The sport at Worth yesterday was replete with exciting incidents and was thoroughly enjoyed by one of the largest gatherings that haB gone to the Chicago Ridge Course bidco its fall opening. The fifth race of the day, a dash of one mile, was fraught with more Btirring hapen-ings than are usually crowded into a full day b session. In the first place five of the field of ten ran around the full course to a false start and when the real race was on and over the judges placed a horse second that to many appeared to have finished third. The winner turned up in W. B. Gates, which was rated cleverly along in front most of the way and trouble when called came away without much upon in the last eighth. He wonby two lengths. Prince Blazes propped slightly in the last six-teenth but was easily tho best of the others at that and Blake was so confident he would be second that he began easing him up, the horse being well out toward tbe outside rail. He appeared to pass over the line about a length in front of Do Madge which finished next to the inside rail but the judges caught the latter sec-ond and signaled the number to be bulletined. There was considerable dissatisfaction expressed at the decision. . Odnor had little trouble about taking the feature event of the day, the Chicago Ridgo Handicap for three-year-olds and upward at one and one-Bixteenth miles. Gonfalon set a merry pace for the first seven furlongs, where HickB urged Odnor to the front and he remained there easily thereafter winning by three lengths from Argregor, which beat Barrack the same distance for Becond place. Argregor finished with determination, but was not lood enough to concede the weight to the winner. Barrack, on account of the track drying out fast, ran much better than he did the day before when the going was sticky and holding. He is good now and bears consideration from now on. The Lady appeared to be anchored by her impost and never cut much of a figure m the contest after the first quarter had been run. Alzura acted kindly at the post in the first race and getting off in a good position Boon took the lead from Bhut Up and simply ran away from her field. She was a rank outsider in the betting. She won by four and a half lengths from Small Jack, which beat Braw Lad a half for second place. Shut Up tired and quit after a half-mile had Ibqen run. Frangible repeated his good race of the day hflfora by taking the second race, a contest over the Derby route, in a hot tilt with Little , Elk n in the last eighth. He won by a half length while Little Elkin beat Fox Bard twelve for second place. Isabey ran well for a. mile and then faded away fast. Little Elkm was the best but was the victim of a bad ride, little Hope being of no help to him whatever when the pinch came. Aladdin showed that he was a pretty fair youngster in any kind of going by taking the third race, a dash of six furlongs-in a mild drive from Autumn Leaves by a length. The latter and Harry New had a hot argument for eecond place in the last eighth, Autumn Leaves getting the verdict on the post by a nose. Harry New was cut off slightly several times dur-ing the race or he would have finiehed second. Digby Bell at laBt found a track and field to his liking and won a clever race. It was the laBt race of tbe day, a dash of five furlongB for two-year-olds. He finished like a. shot out of a gun, winning going away by a length from Pom-pey, which outlasted Jane Oaker by a head for second place. Duke of Connaught and Smiths Reol ran well for four furlongs. Concerning the placing in tbe fifth race Judge Macfarlan said there wasno diversity of opinion in the stand. Fonr horses were placed and all the judges promptly concurred as to the order in which they passed tho winning line. It may be said that when horses finish widely apart, as waB the case here, only the judges can correctly placo them and they were no doubt correctly placed in this case.
