CLOSE FINISHES AT WORTH. The ideal racing weather that has prevailed here in the last weak brought out the usual big gathering yesterday at Worth, the big grandstand being filled to repletion. There was no stake race up for solution, but the card of six races was made up of good fields and resulted in some excellent racing. Tho moat attractive race of tho day was the fourth race, a dash of seven furlongs for thrae-yoar-olds and upward. The Pride was made a prime favorite, being held at even money in the betting but ha ran a poor race finishing back in tho ruck. The winner proved to be W. J. Deboe which closed up resolutely in the last eighth and got up in time to nip Sevoy on the post. The Pride, closely attended by Money Muss and Sevoy, started out to make the pace which was a hot one from flag fall. He held a slight advantage for a half milo and then to the surprise of many fell gradually away bsaten. After he retired Money Muss assumed command and held it clear up to the laBt eighth post where he retired in favor of 8evoy. The last named appeared all over the winner in the last sixteenth but bore W. J. Deboe came fast and strongly and under a vigorous ride got up in time to win by a head on the post. Sevoy beat the tired Money Muss four lengths for socond place. The Pride finished a bad fourth. The finish between Orontas and Hermencia in the fifth race, a dash of one and an eighth miles, was just as exciting-as in the race before it. The former was under vigorous urging all the way and saved ground by hugging the inside rail in the last quarter. He was lucky to find clear sailing in tho last eighth and, finishing with great speed, beat out Hermencia by a neck. The latter was given a perfect ride, but the winner was just a shade too good for him. Harry Preston waB third two lengths back. He ran the best race of his career and appeared to have a chance when a furlong out. The days opener went to Omdnrman, which ran back to his good Bhowing of two days be fore. Eva Rice, showing much improvement, led by a good margin up to the paddock gate, where Omdnrman came with a rush noxt to the inside rail and boat her easily to the line by a length. Monos finished third, two lengths back of Eva Rice. Tom Kingsloy ran to his best form, taking the second race a dash of six furlongs, by a neck from Vulcain in a drive. Ho ran Into the lead after the first quarter had been ngotiated and remained thnro to tho end. Vu ain finished fast but could not quite get up. Summer ran in much improved form and is on edge. Rag Tag proved the bost of the thirteen that faced the barrier in the third race, a dash of five furlongs for two-year-olds. Ha came with a good burst of speed in tho last eighth next to 1 the inside rail, winning quite easily by one and a half lengths, while Bragg beat Miracle II. one for second place. C. B. Campbell did not quit in the last race yesterday as he did some days before, and the result was that he made his field look cheap. He won in a canter by two and a half lengths from RasBelas, he beating Lord Roberts six for second place.
